Some common proverbs I believe.

*It’s better to be thought a fool and keep one’s mouth shut than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.

*One in the hand is better than two in the bush (unless, I suppose the one in the hand has H1N1).

*You reap what you sow.

*Be suspicious of the easy way.

*Never trust someone who constantly says, “Trust me.”

*Expecting life to take it easy on you is like expecting a bull not to charge you because you are a vegetarian (paraphrase of  Jewish proverb).

Here were some proverbs offered by participants at a conference I attended a few weeks back.

*Every one’s finger fits their nose (Brazilian truism).

*Don’t get into a throw-up contest with a buzzard.

*Spoil a pig and boy and you a get a bad boy and good pig.

I’m just glad Michael Scott was not in the audience. Know what I’m saying?

I believe this one. “The early bird gets the worm, and the second mouse gets the cheese.”

Don’t believe anyone who says, “Let me be honest with you.”

I’ve always liked : Shared joy is a double joy; shared sorrow is half a sorrow. (from Sweden)

I did a semester on Proverbs after doing some Doctorate work on them. People seemed to love the wisdom. Great stuff. Are you loving Nashville?

How about “If you’ve got to swallow a frog, it’s best not to stare at it very long.” -Bob Russell
